Frequently Asked Questions
Gold rate questions, explained
What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K gold?
24K describes near-pure gold, while 22K is approximately 91.6% gold and 18K is 75% gold by weight. The 24K and 22K values are separately published references; the 18K column is calculated as 75% of the 24K reference price.
How is today's gold rate per gram calculated from the 10-gram rate?
Divide the published 10-gram rate by 10. The same calculation lets you compare 8g, 10g and 100g, without including fabrication or jewellery-specific charges.
Does the shown gold price include GST and making charges?
No. The table is a market reference. Jewellery invoices can also include tax, seller margins and making charges. Our calculator optionally models 3% GST on the reference value for illustration.
Why can the 24K gold rate be different across Indian cities?
Rates depend on when and where the quote was published, differences between bullion and jewellery pricing, purity, local market conditions and dealer charges. Local rates may differ from this indicative reference.
Can gold rates change after the displayed update time?
Yes. The listed rate is the latest source-checked published reference, not a firm offer. Always compare with your seller's current quotation.
How reliable is the price history?
History contains validated recorded observations; missing dates are not filled with estimated prices. An absent date should not be interpreted as a day when the price stayed unchanged.
How many grams are in one tola of gold?
One traditional tola is approximately 11.66 grams. It is not the same as 10 grams. Enter 11.66 g in the price calculator for a comparable indicative value.
What is the difference between the rate date and the last checked time?
The rate date tells you which published quotation the price represents. The last checked time tells you when the website verified whether a newer rate was available. A recent check does not necessarily mean a fresh rate was published.
Understanding Gold Prices
What influences the gold rate in India?
A gold reference price can change even when the purity and weight stay the same. Compare quotations made at similar times and on the same basis before interpreting a movement.
Global bullion prices
International demand, monetary conditions and investor expectations can influence the value of gold quoted in global markets.
Rupee exchange rates
A change in the rupee against currencies used for international gold trading can affect an India-denominated reference, even when the global price is steady.
Import costs and local premiums
Import-related costs, dealer spreads and local demand can make a retail quotation different from a market reference. Taxes and making charges can add further costs.
How should you compare two gold quotations?
Match purity (24K, 22K or 18K), weight (grams or 10 grams), quotation date and price basis. A jeweller's final invoice is not directly comparable with a reference rate that excludes GST, premiums and making charges. For a traditional tola comparison, enter approximately 11.66 grams into the calculator above rather than assuming a tola is 10 grams.
How to Read the Quote
Gold
Price Guide
Learn how purity, weight, taxes and local retail charges affect the price you pay for gold.
24K Gold · 999
999 fineness means approximately 99.9% purity. Compare it only with another 24K / 999 quote using the same weight and quotation time.
22K Gold · 916
The 22K value is a separately published reference, not a conversion from the 24K value.
18K Gold · 750
The 18K figure is an illustrative calculation based on 75% purity, rather than an independent retailer quote.
Check the Update Time
Bullion rates can move through the day. Compare prices using the same purity, unit and time window before drawing a conclusion.
