Quick Answer
What car can I afford from my salary?
Enter your monthly take-home salary, existing EMIs, expenses and savings you want to protect, down payment, loan rate and tenure. The calculator estimates a maximum car EMI, supported loan amount and car price from those limits.

Formula & Context
A Calculation Is
Not a Forecast.
How It Works
The calculator takes the lower of two limits: your chosen total-EMI cap after existing EMIs, and the cash left after existing EMIs, protected monthly expenses/savings and estimated car running costs. It then solves the standard reducing-balance EMI formula backwards to estimate the supported loan principal.
Example
With ₹1,00,000 monthly take-home pay, ₹10,000 of existing EMIs and a 40% total-EMI limit, the maximum new car EMI is ₹30,000. The car price then depends on your rate, tenure and down payment.
When It Is Useful
Use this to translate both a debt-service limit and your actual monthly cash-flow buffer into a car-loan amount. The percentage is a planning guardrail you control, not a lender approval rule. Banks also consider credit score, age, employer, loan-to-value, existing obligations and their own eligibility policy.

Frequently Asked
Questions.
These answers explain the mathematics and limitations. They do not assess whether a particular investment or strategy is suitable for you.
Is the default 40% EMI limit a bank rule?
No. It is only a starting planning assumption and is fully editable. Different lenders and households can use very different debt-service limits.
How is the maximum loan calculated?
The calculator solves the standard reducing-balance EMI equation backwards using the maximum car EMI, annual interest rate and loan tenure you enter.
Are fuel, insurance and maintenance included?
Yes. The estimated monthly running cost reduces the cash-flow room available for the car EMI, and the result also shows total monthly car outgo as a share of take-home salary.
