Quick Answer
How much retirement corpus do you need?

Formula & Context
A Calculation Is
Not a Forecast.
How It Works
The estimate uses a growing-annuity present-value model after first inflating today’s monthly expense to the retirement date.
Example
The result can change sharply with retirement age, inflation, post-retirement return and the number of retirement years. Small assumption changes can produce large corpus differences.
When It Is Useful
Use this as a planning illustration, not a recommendation. Real retirement planning also considers taxes, healthcare, pensions, other income, asset allocation, longevity and unexpected expenses.

Frequently Asked
Questions.
These answers explain the mathematics and limitations. They do not assess whether a particular investment or strategy is suitable for you.
Does the retirement corpus include taxes?
No. The estimate is before investor-specific taxes, fees and product costs.
Why is inflation included after retirement?
Because living costs can continue rising during retirement, so a fixed nominal withdrawal may lose purchasing power.
What if post-retirement return is lower than inflation?
The required corpus generally rises because the portfolio is assumed to grow more slowly than spending needs.
