Quick Answer
How do you calculate XIRR for multiple investments?
Add every investment and receipt with its exact date. XIRR finds the annualised rate that makes the present value of all those dated cash flows equal to zero.

Formula & Context
A Calculation Is
Not a Forecast.
How It Works
XIRR is the annual rate that makes the present value of all dated cash flows equal to zero.
Example
A single investment of ₹1,00,000 returned as ₹1,20,000 exactly two years later implies about 9.54% annualised return; actual XIRR uses the precise dates and can also handle additional contributions or withdrawals. Different cash-flow timing can change the answer substantially.
When It Is Useful
Use XIRR for portfolios with multiple dated investments, withdrawals or redemptions. The result depends on the cash flows entered and does not measure volatility, risk or future return.

Frequently Asked
Questions.
These answers explain the mathematics and limitations. They do not assess whether a particular investment or strategy is suitable for you.
How should I enter investments and withdrawals?
Choose Investment for money paid into the investment and Receipt for money received back, such as a withdrawal, dividend or final redemption value.
Why does XIRR use exact dates?
Because each cash flow is invested for a different length of time. Exact dates allow the calculation to account for those different holding periods.
Can XIRR have more than one mathematical solution?
Unusual cash-flow patterns can sometimes produce multiple mathematical solutions. The calculator is intended for ordinary investment cash-flow patterns with at least one outflow and one inflow.
